GuildLink is proud to support World Asthma Day 2020 and is committed to helping pharmacists throughout Australia deliver medication management and healthcare support to patients with asthma.
In 2017-18, one in nine Australians had asthma, with the prevalence of those having the respiratory condition increasing to 11.2%. For patients with asthma, their pharmacist plays a key role in helping them to manage their condition; with one in three asthma patients (32.8%) using medication daily to help manage symptoms and one in six (17.3%) using medication a few times per week1.
“With almost one third of asthma patients using medication to manage their symptoms, it was surprising to discover that less than a quarter (23.2%) of asthma patients over the age of 18 years had a written asthma action plan1,” said GuildLink CEO Arun Sharma, “This World Asthma Day, we would like to highlight the importance of providing services such as MedsChecks and Inhaler Technique Checks to eligible patients. These services may be particularly helpful for those with complicated medication regimes or require reminders regarding correct inhaler technique.”
